Water is the lifeblood for all humans…even us golfers. By hydrating frequently to a point of clear urine, your brain will function more efficiently. You will rid yourself of the bodily toxins that can cripple the peak performer.
With hydration you will be able to hold a thought longer. Recovery from a negative swing or putt will be easier. Patience will prevalent. Clarity will now be an asset as you choose your club and mentally shape your shots. Even more powerful, hydration will assist your intuition in stepping up to the plate and delivering the goods when the money is on the table. Here’s the take on water:
- The night before a big event, drink plenty of water. Hydration begins here. The stress of the situation will call on all reserves within your body. A dry mouth from the lack of water is common in many performers under duress or stress.
- Hydrate frequently during the round. If you’re drinking because you’re thirsty, it’s too late.
- If the water is ice cold, drink it slowly to avoid cramps.
- Avoid coffee, tea and alcohol. These drinks will dehydrate the body even more. If you must have caffeine, increase your water intake.
- If you’ve traveled by air just prior to the event, drink even more water as the high altitude dehydrates.
- Sports drinks and coconut water are good but nothing beats water to sharpen your mind.
